Sign Up Now for Colonel Ewan Cameron's Talk on His London To Edinburgh Ride - at "An Evening of Endeavour" at The Royal Geographic Society
On Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 Ewan Cameron will describe his 436 mile in three and a half day horseback ride, retracing the journey made by the 1603 messenger who took the news to King James Ist of Scotland that Queen Elizabeth Ist had died. Ewan and a colleague left St John's Wood Barracks at 4am on Friday 25th March and arrived in Edinburgh, at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, at 6pm on Monday March 28th. See http://ldeveningofendeavour.weebly.com/index.html
Ewan reports,
"We used a lot of green lanes, bridleways, verges and field margins and so were able to crack on. We had the most fantastic support, plus the help from the King's Troop and hunting people the length of the journey was superb. Not one horse was in the wrong place or late and we did not have a single horse injury."
Minette coached Ewan for this ride. "Your tuition was brilliant" he says to Minette. "You were the only person who made any sense of what was something of a step into the unknown from an endurance riding angle. Many thanks again for the exceptional help you gave us."
Ham House Stables joins up with Hoof and Sport England to encourage newcomers and former riders to "Take Back The Reins"
Minette's riding stables is one the first in the UK to create a special programme designed to help people into, or reintroduce them to, riding.
"Take Back The Reins" is a series of riding lessons providing individual and group coaching that has been designed to support the first steps one needs to get back into the saddle.
The programme will begin on Tuesday, January 10th and will run for the next seven weeks. The lessons will help develop riding skills, improve fitness, enable riders to progress within the sport and most importantly, ensure there's lots of fun and help along the way. For further information call Ham House Stables.
Says Minette, "Riding a horse for an hour burns anything between 250 to 500 calories, depending on your weight and what you are actually doing. Riding uses all the main muscle groups - it's a bit like it's own form of yoga. When you are riding, your muscles are continually working together to keep your body stable on the horse, and this is one of the reasons why regular riders are fit and why they have such strong abdominal muscles."
The Association of British Riding Schools (ABRS) 2011 conference featured a talk from Minette Rice-Edwards.
Entitled, "Teaching Riders What Effect Their Body Has On The Horse" the talk was part of the Monday 10th October proceedings. Transcripts of the talk will be available after by contacting Minette directly.

Art of Riding DVD Brings A Pupil All The Way From Dubai
Angela Barlow recently wrote from Dubai,
"Dear Minette,
I have just finished watching your 'Art of Riding' dvd and was so impressed I thought I would try and see if I could get some lessons with you when I'm in the UK. I live in Dubai and although there are a few good instructors here, they are mostly fully booked or work for Sheikhs. I haven't seen any that get you to think about things in the way that you did in your dvd. So it can be very difficult to get the right training. As I want to get my own horse at some stage I need to understand what I'm doing that may put the horse off balance and to learn how to balance him and myself properly.
Kind regards,
Angela"

New Riding DVD Helps Beginners And Experienced Riders Improve Performance And Enjoyment
Minette uses her lifetime’s experience to show how everyday riders with ordinary horses can dramatically improve both their performance and their enjoyment of riding through more effective communication with their horses.
Says Minette, “I’ve competed in all types of equestrian events and taught over 10,500 lessons and I’ve learnt how to simplify and explain the art of riding. This DVD is easy to follow for beginners and new riders, has useful tips on improving performance for intermediate riders and is a real treat for anyone interested in horses.”
“Understanding the Art of Riding” - a 90-minute programme - is great value for beginners and improvers alike. The first DVD covers: walk on the lunge; trot on the lunge; bending the horse and transitions. Future DVDs will cover a wide range of topics, all aimed at improving the riding experience and performance.
Minette’s approach has already been endorsed by leading professional riders and trainers:
“an invaluable study with impeccable advice and beautiful images… thank you Minette for helping us to improve our equitation every day” Lauro Aguilo, Spanish Europa Dressage Team
“this is a very well put together DVD... it is full of straight forward common sense. There is something here for everyone, whatever their ability.” Jane Holderness-Roddam DVO, Olympic Team Medallist and former Chairman of the Riding for the Disabled Association.
“A beautifully crafted presentation of the essentials of good riding. This DVD fulfils and important role by introducing the beginner to the mystery of educated riding.” Daniel Pevsner, Fellow of The British Horse Society.
“The DVD is a labour of love” says Minette “as it is the essence of the core principles I have learned over the years. I wanted to make that more widely available – both for my customers to use at home and for a wider audience who are seeking expert guidance on how to get the best from their riding.
